Bus, train, bicycle, skates, scooter, shared car … All means were good to undertake the “Mobility Challenge”, organized from 16 to 22 May, by the Region and the Environment and Control Agency of Energy (Ademe). ). Supported in the Pays d’Ancenis by Compa, the challenge for employees and students encourages people to replace polluting modes of transport with greener solutions. With a simple goal: to drastically reduce CO2 emissions on the way home from work or home. Although a regional winner was chosen in the end – the structure with the highest participation rate – the aim is to encourage rather than create competition. Fifteen Pays-d’Ancenis companies responded to the call: from the René-Guy Cadou school to the motorized gendarmerie section.

“Agents specifically see the effect of CO2 participation. It’s a team emulation tool.”

In 2021, Compa agents saved 2,700 km of individual car journeys during the challenge, the equivalent of 28 days of gas heating. A welcome improvement in benefits for Jean-Yves Ploteau, vice-president delegate to the community of municipalities, in charge of rurality and mobility: “Agents see the concrete effect of participation on CO2. It is a computer emulation tool. Because every day, during the week of the challenge, the participants were able to introduce their usual trips to the challenge platform, replaced by ecological transport or teleworking. An easy way to discover the savings made at your level, but also at the establishment.

9 km by bike

At La Compa, the challenge helped create car-sharing habits. “People realized they had made the same journey,” says Jean-Yves Ploteau, who “wants to support the changes in practice.”

“If I ever want to do it every day, I’ll have to invest in an electric bike.”

In the center of Ancenis, for the workshop and shop “Spices at my leisure”, the challenge made sense immediately. “We are involved in environmental issues, it’s the DNA of our company,” said Anne Garacoïts, a saleswoman at the structure. Neighbor of Oudon, decided to make the journey of 9 km by bike. “It simply came to our notice then. This gives us a chance to try, he rejoices. But if I ever want to do it every day, I have to invest in an electric bike. Because switching to smooth mobility requires organization. Adeline Blin, assistant director of the company, had to make arrangements: “I registered my children on the bus so I could take the bike. Otherwise, it does not fit. As soon as the good weather arrives, make the trip by electric bike from Mésanger.

“When does it happen to us? »

At the Sacré-Coeur school in Vallons-de-l’Erdre, the children had the opportunity to take part in the challenge. “I was very surprised to see a dozen bicycles on Monday morning,” said Marie-Cécile Chapelais, the establishment’s director, for whom the aim is to reflect on travel. “Through children we can also reach parents,” he said.

“People are very attentive to soft links. They ask, ‘When does this happen to us?'”

Already widespread in urban areas, eco-mobility would not be desired in rural areas. A false statement for Jean-Yves Ploteau, mayor of Vallons-de-l’Erdre: “People are very attentive to soft connections. They ask, “When does this happen to us? »»

For the community of municipalities, the “Mobility Challenge” is part of a more global strategy of working in a territorial network, with solutions for smooth mobility between municipalities, trying to take into account all the specificities. “There are different types of mobility: buying bread, going to work, sending children to school …”, recalls the elected official.
