More than fifty years ago, Nissan competed in the East Africa Rally with the 240Z. To pay homage to this legendary car, the Japanese manufacturer presents a rally Juke that is decorated in the 70’s coupe. If at the moment the machine is a prototype, it still looks ready to explore the desert dunes. , and why not participate in rally-raid events. Like the Dakar, for example.

Aesthetically, this Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute no longer has much to do with the standard Juke. The compact SUV receives a black hood, features vintage sponsor logos, and is equipped with larger wheel arches to fit custom-designed 265/70 R16 all-terrain tires. Additional lights are also mounted on the hood and roof, just to allow you to contemplate the desert at night with serenity.

At the rear, two large exhaust outlets are placed in the middle of the shield, which faces a diffuser.

The rear window has completely disappeared in order to reveal the two large spare wheels that are installed in place of the rear seat.

The Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute is also equipped with roof bars.

In terms of mechanics, this prototype Nissan Juke rally is not really a racing beast.

It is powered by a new 1.6 hybrid engine that should land on the production model. It consists of a 94 hp petrol unit for 148 Nm of torque, associated with a 49 hp electric motor for 205 Nm of torque and a high-voltage alternator-starter that provides an additional 20 hp.

There is also a 1.2 kWh water-cooled battery.

According to Nissan, this engine would offer “25% more power than the current gasoline engine, with a 20% reduction in fuel consumption in the combined cycle.” This is due to the use of biofuels supplied by the oil company Shell, which was already a partner of Nissan during the 1971 East Africa Rally in which the 240Z participated.

Please note that the Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute is also equipped with the multimode automatic transmission present in the standard Juke, as well as reinforced long-travel suspensions.

Inevitably, the cabin of the SUV also undergoes modifications. If the dashboard doesn’t really change, Nissan has still installed a tubular hoop “to harden the hull.” The seats are now equipped with four-point harnesses to ensure maximum safety of the pilot and his co-driver. Other rally-raid-specific equipment has also been added, such as a “to simplify communications” intercom, a high-grip hydraulic handbrake and even a “competition-approved fire extinguisher”.

At the time of writing, Nissan does not say whether this prototype of the Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute will result in a real model dedicated to competition. The manufacturer has already marketed sporty versions of its crossover in the past, with the Juke-R or even the Juke Nismo RS.

To sum up

A Nissan Juke in the Dakar is clearly a fantasy. However, Nissan is developing a rally-raid Juke. Called the Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute, this fun version of the SUV is equipped with extra headlights, huge all-terrain tires, widened wheel arches and two large rear exhaust outlets. Its rear seat has completely disappeared to give rise to two spare wheels, and its passenger compartment has a tubular anti-roll bar for extra safety. The engine itself consists of a simple 1.6 hybrid consisting of a 94 hp petrol unit, a 49 hp electric motor and a 20 hp starter alternator. Nissan does not say whether this Juke Hybrid Rally Tribute will really see the light or not.
