Renault is writing a new chapter in its history with the presentation of the Scénic Vision. An innovative concept car that foreshadows your vision of the living car of tomorrow.

In a way, the automotive sector is currently experiencing an industrial revolution marked by a paradigm shift linked to major climate issues. Some manufacturers are navigating current trends and European constraints to start new strategic cycles. Renault, for example, is promoting its Renaulution and aims for 100% electric autonomy by 2030.

The energy mix, a solution for the future?

In this context, the diamond brand presents today its new concept car: the Renault Scénic Vision. A new vehicle, on the border between SUV and minivan, which embodies the brand’s commitments in terms of comfort on board, seizing the road, new driving energies and technologies.

The 160 kW winding rotor synchronous electric motor of the Renault Scénic Vision comes directly from the Mégane E-Tech Electric. Manufactured by the Cléon factory, it does not use any rare earth, according to the manufacturer. The 40 kWh battery, recyclable and manufactured from 2024 in France within the Gigafactory of the ElectriCity cluster, is supposed to be half as heavy and less bulky, and therefore less expensive, than a vehicle. equivalent electrical. Its capacity is complemented by a 16 kW fuel cell, which facilitates recharging during long journeys.

Renault’s ambition is this for 2030 “When the network of hydrogen stations is developed, there will be long journeys on board a motor vehicle such as Scénic Vision with a simple stop to fill with hydrogen, without resorting to an electric recharge, to travel up to 800 kilometers “. An ambitious goal that could effectively make life easier for many users of electric vehicles, today penalized for charging time in public terminals too long.

A new platform

Renault Scénic Vision uses an original platform, adapted to accommodate all the elements of its engine: engine, battery, fuel cell and hydrogen tank. The choice to place the engine in the rear and, therefore, to make the Scénic Vision a propulsion vehicle, allows to accommodate the 2.5 kg hydrogen tank in the front. The fuel cell finds its place underground, at the back of the platform, behind the battery. Renault specifies that the fuel cell power would only be used for long journeys.

In addition, Renault also highlights a certain “energy frugality” of its Renault Scénic Vision concept based on a circular design. 95% of the materials that make up the concept car, including the battery, are recyclable. On the outside, the materials used (steel, aluminum and plastics) are all recyclable at the end of their useful life.

The floor of a milk bottle

Inside, the seat foams, textiles and seams are made from a single material, using 100% recycled and recyclable polyester. They are easily disassembled from structures and are not pigmented. The floor of the Renault Scénic Vision is made of 100% recycled plastics from food and industrial waste (45% milk bottles, 55% plastic tubes). The style effect is also interesting and graphic. In addition, the manufacturer specifies that 100% of the platinum used for the fuel cell comes from the recycling of the catalytic converters of thermal cars. The same approach for copper batteries, which comes from 100% vehicles at the end of their useful life and scrap production.

In addition, the Renault Scénic Vision gives a privileged place to comfort and safety technologies. Safety Coach warns of road hazards (dangerous curves, ice, accidents, etc.) thanks to navigation data and the interconnection between vehicles. Safety Guardian takes care of driving in case of driver error, such as lack of vigilance or excessive speed in a bend.

“Guardian Angel” technologies.

Another interesting technology, the concept car integrates in the lower part of the compartment of its windshield a screen that covers the entire width of the vehicle and allows to increase the field of view of the driver by 7 °, making the hood of the vehicle disappear. to sensors and other cameras on board.

The cabin is adorned with a myriad of technological proposals designed to make life on board safer and easier, such as cocoon air cushions that wrap the passenger in the event of an impact, antagonistic doors without a central pillar to facilitate accessibility. , facial expression recognition, custom soundtracks or configurable screen widgets that act as an infotainment interface and are distributed in different parts of the vehicle.

An expressive graphic identity

With a very expressive graphic universe, Scénic Vision plays with recycled raw materials and faceted effects, thanks to volumes and shapes that reflect and reflect light from different angles. The signature lighting is unique, with a logo that lights up and a back quarter bounded by a light area.

However, one of the surprises of this concept car is the 21-inch wheels, the wheels of which have aerodynamic flaps. When the car is moving (speed ≥ 10 km / h), the flaps close for better aerodynamics. As soon as the car slows down and its speed drops below 10 km / h, the flaps open for better cooling and greater evacuation of the heat produced by the brakes. Obviously, this system is unlikely to arrive as it is on the road.

Finally, the dimensions of the Renault Scénic Vision are 4.49 m long, 1.9 m wide and 1.59 m high. They do it pretty close to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, for example.

As you may have noticed, the Renault Scénic Vision will never go into production as it is, but it foreshadows the development paths that Renault is trying to explore. Some of these elements will no doubt find their way into production vehicles. The general form of the new concept should also be on the roads from 2024, with a more familiar configuration (the concept only had four seats) and a fully electric motorization.
