Will the end of the car mark a return to the Middle Ages?

By Marc Alpozzo and Emmanuel Jaffelin, philosophers and essayists.

Tribune. Anyone who reads these lines, if not just pedestrians or bicyclists, will admit that what we say about roads is true. Needless to say, they deteriorate and oscillate between bad and very poor condition. This observation is simple: the car has been “cursed” by hypermodernity, which today says, in the name of climate and decay, to do without it to get back on the bike or scooter, hitting our ears with everyone’s . “responsibility” for global warming. We already see children tied to bicycles, thrown dangerously in the middle of traffic at rush hour, children soaked in the showers, and so on. You have to tell us where the progress is!

For the past five years, certain political figures have wanted to “skin” him car ! They want to end the car, and the rest of the means of transport (plane, subway, bus, etc.), that is, take the car out of our society, first to the cities where they make its traffic unbearable. – even impossible! – (we limit the speed to 30 kilometers per hour, we block the traffic lanes that lead to monstrous traffic jams, etc.) then, on the roads, that the responsible authorities[1] keep little and bad. Local roads are those roads that connect the hamlets and villages: less crowded than other roads, these roads, however, accommodate tractors and trucks. Since city council resources have not increased with the abolition of local (or housing) taxes, it goes without saying that even mayors who do not hate[2] cars, however, do not find enough means to maintain their roads; they are content with a few “repairs” of the holes or dangerous spaces of “local” roads, leaving the rest of the road in a mediocre state, even unfortunate! However, neither departmental nor national roads are the subject of more attention, although cars may be moving a little faster there: authorities are also repairing passages that run the risk of puncturing wheels and / or vehicle accidents. .

Many roads, for example, in the Paris region, are in such poor condition that speeding must be avoided, evoking in some people the idea that it would be better to ride them than to ride; therefore, more by carriage than by bus, more by car than by truck! Let’s be clear: the degraded state of French roads is a symptom of the entry near New Middle Ages ! Even cyclists are sick of having sore buttocks when they don’t have bike lanes, so they have to take a road that signals the of– path to modernity!

Come on, let’s be a little rewarding, frustrating and rude, it will change us from those well-meaning fans who voluntarily reduce their critical spirit to a bit of youthful enthusiasm, showing that everyone is beautiful, everyone is nice, as we said. : more than driving schools and driving licenses, why shouldn’t the state invest in riding centers that teach young people to ride? Instead of the Highway Code, why not an Equestrian Code? This would be all the more in the tone of this era, as they seek to push us back on all levels, claiming that a bicycle in the rain is more responsible than a car, a wooden house, or worse a container, In the middle. of the forest, smarter than a stone pavilion in the suburbs, in short, if it morally forbids us to say “Before it was better!” », All contribute to make us believe that this formula is true! In the face of so many inconsistencies, inconsistencies, political leaders should not save at least a portion of each road to make them smooth and safe cycle paths for everyone, which would at least give a form of legitimacy to this project. stupid-ecological bike overvaluation?

Conclusion (provisional) : Since no political leader will read this article, let’s tell readers that roads are the new Swiss political cheese that horses will continue to sabotage!

[1]- City councils for neighborhoods, departments and counties for departmental and, the state for nationals, even roads.

[2]- Some councils, instead of repairing the streets and roads of their villages, persist in placing speed reductions in the name of safety!
