On the occasion of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, We Are Tennis has innovated again. Fans have always had the advantage in We Are Tennis. They have always been placed at the center of different projects. Thanks to the new “Spaces” option on Twitter, an audio forum was tested for the first time. The first took place on Friday in the quarterfinals, at the end of the day. It was a very pleasant time that, for the first time, passed very quickly. We were not far from forty in the “space” to talk about the first five days of the tournament that had passed.
Then, on the Tuesday following the final, either the day after Easter Monday or the day after the article in which I explain why A MON SENS Stefanos Tsitsipas is the big favorite of Roland-Garros, a second (and not a second, the nuances for those who know it is not neutral) direct took place. This time we were 377 !!!
Gaël “broadcast” our debate live and in its entirety on his Twitch channel
Before continuing, I explain quickly, for the unfortunate who could not attend the “space” of last Tuesday, April 19, 2022, the concept. This is a live broadcast of about 60 minutes, during which a number of topics are covered, some determined in advance by a vote made by you, others not expected to arise during the discussion. The space is open to as many people as would like to enter. On the other hand, only 13 of them, including the host, can speak simultaneously.
So let’s go back to last Tuesday. Before it all started, it’s true, I did a bit of promo by posting the tweet announcing the date, first to my family, although my parents haven’t missed just one of my interventions yet, wherever they are, no because they have done so. a subjective view of my work, but simply because of the quality of the product delivered; then to friends and to certain people in my address book. Among them was Gael Monfils, who was enthusiastic about the concept.
That’s why, after about twenty minutes of broadcasting, the 21st player in the world entered the “Space”. He asked to speak, as is done by raising his hand virtually, and I gave it to him. It took almost an hour and a half of a super pleasant exchange between him, the fans, the journalists, me and, as a guest star, Elina Svitolina-Monfils, who was by his side. For the record, Gaël “broadcast” our debate live and in its entirety on his Twitch channel, where his community was able to benefit from the exchanges.
Frankly, I don’t say that because I was the one who presented the show, but it was great. Also, in the end, I received a lot of messages congratulating me on the past moment, including Gaël.
So what did he say? Lots of things. He talked about Carlos Alcaraz, and how the Spaniard dominated him in the Open BNP Paribas. From the speed with which he moves and with which he executes his shots, but also because of his tennis IQ. He talked at length about Stefanos Tsitsipas and his chances of winning Roland-Garros, as this was the default theme for “We Are Tennis” fans.
On this subject, Gaël is not as categorical as I am, but he still places Stefanos, among the 2/3 favorites to win in Paris. And Rafael Nadal comes first. I specify that I too, but when I write the newspaper last Monday, for those who have read it and have not finished scanning the title with a look to react in a somewhat brutal and above all peremptory way, you will have understood that The status of Grand Slam record health is still unclear. And if he doesn’t come to Paris, he can’t win Roland-Garros.
The FFL (French Federation of Lose), loved by my heart, also intervened to say good things.
But what I liked most, and I think that is also the case with those present, is the frankness and humility with which Gaël answered all the different questions that were asked of him, which are questions from journalists like Benoît Maylin. or Christophe Thoreau, two great tennis connoisseurs whom I thank in passing, but also questions from fans to whom I tried to cede control as much as possible. We felt that Gaël was not only very available but that he was also having a good time.
We had a little passage in English, when Gaël put his half, Elina Svitolina, online. He also gave his opinion on “Stef” and it was just as exciting.
And then I had to put an end to the show, otherwise I think we would still be debating. Note that at the end of the show, the FFL (French Federation of Lose), loved by my heart, also intervened to say good things. And then there was a very nice moment, where Gaël congratulated the FFL for their humor and encouraged them to continue in that direction. In turn, FFL members warned him not to miss Roland-Garros, otherwise they would be forced to fall on him! I like. He hinted that they would be very angry if he lifted the Musketeers Cup.
It is really all the evil we wish him. Thanks again Gaël and thanks to all the fans present. We look forward to seeing you again in a new “Space”.
